Union makes force

Team communication
The union of a group of people to achieve a common goal is what we know as “team communication”.
For an effective communication, it is necessary to know how to listen, not to have a unique reality and whenever possible, to reach a common agreement in the decisions.
In our case, the purpose is to ensure the care and handling of the animals under our care to ensure their welfare.
But, ¿What do we need?
- Express ouselves in a direct manner.
We should avoid indirect, speaking in the most transparent and respectful way possible.
- To define the role of each team member.
All members must be aware of what their responsibilities are on the day.
- To involve all the team on the challenges that lie ahead.
All people should be involved in both successes and failures. All this is an apprenticeship.
- Solve the problems.
We must not let misunderstandings, day-to-day stress or a dispute at certain times generate an unresolved problem.
- To understand and empathize with different personalities and attitudes.
- To encourage the formation board.
It is very important to facilitate plannings, protocols, guides, etc. Unify different criteria in the department and the team has to be familiarized with the correct training vocabulary and techniques. It is also very important to have one or more reference persons to support those who can address with their doubts.
- To have ambition at learning and self-improvement.
From the beginning it is not advisable to set objectives that are very difficult to achieve, because that would lead frustration and a false sense of disability. It is better to propose easier objectives and working in progress demanding oneself little by little.
- To be conscious about what it is known as “Dunning-Kruger effect”.
What it is? It is a cognitive bias in which a person with low knowledge, he incorrectly believes, he is more capable than he really is, it means, the more you think you know, the less you know.
It is something that all of us experience throughout our lives and it is very important to learn to be self-critical and humble to be conscious of the real level of our knowledge.
So, when we work with our animals, we should recognize which are our weaknesses and strengthen us with colleague’s opinions and advices with more or less experience. In this way, we will admit that people with different points of view, can help and inspire us with new ideas or working tools.
In Wezooit we are sure that all these points will guarantee us a good team communication and it will also be reflected in the daily relationship with our animals.
